The Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has a post-doctoral position opening to conduct research molecular pathogenesis and potential therapeutic strategies for lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs), inherited diseases caused by deficiencies of single enzymes/proteins that are essential for lysosomal function. The research involves investigation of pathogenic cascades secondary to the lysosomal enzyme deficiency in several LSDs (i.e. lysosomal membrane permeabilization, calcium cellular homeostasis, ER and oxidative stress). In addition, these specific cascades, once characterized, will be used as targets for the development of potential therapies for LSDs.
The doctoral researcher should have completed a PhD and/or MD degrees (PhD in the field of biomedical sciences) and have experience in the following areas: enzymatic and protein time-sensitive assays; basic molecular biology techniques including but not limited to molecular cloning, transfection, infection, RNA isolation, and Northern blotting; perform tissue culture procedures; knowledge of specific softwares such as GraphPad, Excel, PubChem, PDB, ChemDraw, Volocity and ZEN 2009 Edition; basic proteomics techniques including enzyme kinetics, subcellular fractionation, immunoprecipitation, immunoblots, pulse-chase assays, confocal and live cell microscopy, immunofluorescence assays, etc.
