Postdoctoral positions are available for scientists who are interested in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD). We study the regulation of energy balance, body weight, and glucose/lipid metabolism, and particularly brain regulation of these processes. We generate a variety of genetically-modified mouse models of obesity and other metabolic diseases by cell type-specific deletion of the genes that encode various signaling molecules, and metabolically phenotype these mice using a variety of molecular, biochemical, and physiological methods. We also use electrophysiological approaches (e.g. patch clamp) to study synaptic transmissions and neural circuits in the brain, particularly in the hypothalamus that controls energy balance, body weight, and glucose/lipid metabolism. Candidates with a strong neuroscience background and extensive experience in patch clamp recording in brain slices and/or immunohistochemistry are encouraged to apply for the positions.
