英国帝国理工学院招收博士后研究助理
Salary: £32,100 per annum
Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate to work closely with Dr Mark Smith and Professor Dominic Withers. The position is funded by Diabetes UK based at Imperial College London.
The successful candidate will work on a project which aims to target intracellular signalling molecules in populations of hypothalamic neurons to determine the role of hormonal modulation of neuronal excitability and energy homeostasis. The precise mechanisms that underlie the actions of leptin in the brain are unclear although hypothalamic pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and agouti-related peptide (AgRP) expressing neurons have been implicated. Specifically, S6-kinase-1 (S6K1) which is important in glucose homeostasis and an ion channel protein (Cacna1e) that may underlie leptin-induced depolarization of POMC neurons will be examined.
You will join a multi-disciplinary team that investigates energy homeostasis from the gene level through to cellular and organism physiology. The applicant will maintain and metabolically phenotype transgenic lines, perform electrophysiology and conduct molecular/biochemical studies. They will be expected to contribute group discussions and to the presentation and publication of research.
You should have a PhD in Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or a closely related subject and hold a current UK personal Home Office licence. Extensive laboratory experience, including eitherelectrophysiology and/or the establishment and metabolic phenotyping of transgenic lines is essential.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for up to 3 years, starting from 1 October 2012 and is based at the Hammersmith Campus.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Dr. Mark Smith, mark.smith@imperial.ac.uk .
