Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Assistant posts working on a project funded by Cancer Research UK in the laboratory of Professor Grahame Hardie.
The aim of the project is to test the hypothesis that AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a tumour suppressor that is inactivated in many tumours, and to study effects of AMPK activation on tumour cell protein expression and metabolism. One post will mainly focus on studies of mouse models of cancer, with some analysis of human cancer biopsies, while the other will study effects of AMPK on global protein expression, translation and phosphorylation, as well as metabolism, in cultured tumour cells (using RNAseq, phosphoproteomic and metabolomic methods). Although training will be provided, previous experience with some of these techniques, and with bioinformatics for the second post, would be an advantage.
The project is funded for up to 5 years, although shorter appointments may be made. Applicants should hold a PhD and previous experience in field(s) relevant to the project.
