Job Description

NIH POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
MUSCULOSKELETAL MRI / NMR

A postdoctoral position is available in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Section (Richard Spencer, Chief) of the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, located in Baltimore, Maryland. The work will center on spectroscopic and imaging studies of cartilage tissue derived from tissue engineering protocols and from animals as well as in vivo studies on human subjects. Current research emphasizes modern multivariate classification and grading techniques, multiexponential and fractional order transverse relaxation analysis and relaxometry. Other research opportunities may be available depending upon the interests and background of the successful candidate.
MRI instrumentation consists of a triple-resonance vertical wide-bore 9.4T Bruker Avance III system with microimaging and solids capability, a double-resonance Bruker 7T/30 cm Biospec Avance system, and a Philips 3T Achieva whole-body MRI system equipped with 32 receive channels and heteronuclear capability.
A background in MRI imaging or NMR spectroscopy of connective tissue is preferred, although applications are also invited from individuals with experience in other areas of biological MRI and NMR. A strong background in MRI or NMR is required. The appointment will be as an IRTA Postdoctoral Fellow for US citizens or as a Visiting Fellow for non-citizens. Accordingly, applicants must have fewer than five years of postdoctoral experience.
Interested individuals should e-mail their CV and the names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of at least three references to: Dr. Richard Spencer, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Section, NIH/NIA, GRC 4D-06, 5600 Nathan Shock Drive, Baltimore, MD 21224; Tel. 410-558-8226; e-mail: spencerri@mail.nih.gov
