Deregulation and reorganisation of the autonomic nervous system in epilepsy or stroke: evaluations by neurophysiology and fMRI

We are seeking a full-time PhD / PostDoc for a translational research program at the frontier between neuroscience and neurology / neuro-cardiology.

It is currently admitted that a deregulation of brain activity and of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) may contribute to Sudden Unexpected Death in EPilepsy (SUDEP) or cardiac problems after stroke. The aim of this translational research program is to evaluate the deregulation of the ANS in epileptic or stroke patients. Epileptic and stroke patients will be recruited at the Neurology & Cardiology outpatient consultations, and in the Stroke Unit. The deregulation of the ANS and its reorganisation will be quantified by means of neurophysiological and electro-cardiologic evaluations. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) will be used to correlate cerebral dysfunctions with the deregulation of the ANS.

Qualifications:
 PostDoc with a Ph.D. thesis in the field of neuroscience (ANS and/or fMRI and/or EEG)
 Medical Doctor, Neurologist, Cardiology, Rehabilitation
 Engineer
 Master in Psychology, Physiotherapy, Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Biology (neurobiology), Biomedical Sciences (neuroscience)

Asset: Experience with ANS analyses (EKG, RR variability, tilt-test, baro-reflex …), with EEG analysis, or fMRI (BrainVoyager / SPM), Matlab computing will be assets successful application.

Mandatory conditions:
1) Being able to communicate in French with the patients (applications NOT submitted in French will NOT be evaluated)
2) Full time commitment for 2 years (renewable)

Application materials to be sent electronically (preferably as PDF): Cover letter, CV/resume in pdf format, and ideally 2 support letters (email or pdf format) sent separately.
