A joint Industry-Academia postdoctoral research position is available through the Roche postdoctoral fellowship program. This unique opportunity exists as a part of a collaboration between Roche Virology and Mayo Clinic Department of Molecular Medicine in Rochester, MN. The Roche Postdoc Fellowship program has been developed within Roche pRED (Pharma Research and Early Development) and allows leading pRED scientists the opportunity to collaborate with talented post-doctoral researchers and leading academic research groups around the world. This fellowship will be conducted in the laboratories of Drs. Stephen Russell and Kah-Whye Peng at the Mayo Clinic.
The postdoctoral fellow will study Hepatitis B biology and aid in the development of new molecular tools to aid antiviral discovery. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel biological assays for HBV and dissect mechanisms of cellular resistance to infection. Further, the successful applicant will look at biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma. Active contribution to international meetings and publications in high-level peer reviewed journals are encouraged and anticipated.
Requirements:
Applicants will possess a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, ideally with virology experience and should be highly motivated, interactive, and intellectually driven. Moreover, applicants should have a history of first-author publications in leading journals. Preference will be given to applicants that have good working knowledge of general virology techniques, as well as basic molecular biology training (RNA/DNA extraction, cloning, qRT-PCR) and cell biology (tissue culture, cell viability assays). Candidates should be proficient in sequencing analysis (Vector NTI, Sequencher, etc) and be able to analyze and report data independently.
