Applications are invited for an 18 month postdoctoral position in Pure Mathematics, based at the University of Southampton. The post is a key part of a new research project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) via research grant EP/J015806/1, and will be supervised by Dr Nick Wright. The position will begin on 1st October 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The aim of the project is to develop new geometric tools for the study of group C* algebras and related objects in non-commutative geometry with a view to obtaining new results on the classical Baum-Connes conjecture. The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent experience in Pure Mathematics. Expertise in group C*-algebras, the Baum-Connes conjecture, or coarse geometry would be of particular relevance. The applicant should have the ability to pursue research independently and as part of a team, and should have a track record of high quality original research.
The Pure Mathematics Group at Southampton offers a welcoming, stimulating and active research environment with an excellent track record of postdoctoral development.
