UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD - Department of Oncology, Old Road Campus Research Building, OxfordGrade 7: £29,249 - £35,938 with a discretionary range to £39,257 p.a.We have an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join a Group headed by Sir Walter Bodmer. This post is funded by the Wellcome Trust as part of a project to collect, genotype, analyse and characterise 4,000 blood samples from rural populations throughout the British Isles. The postholder will play a key role in the analysis of both the genotypic and the phenotypic data obtained in this study. Contributing to the development of statistical and population genetic methods for the analysis of large bodies of genotypic population data and to the development of novel approaches to the analysis of population genetic structure and patterns of linkage disequilibrium, will be another key component of the postholder's duties.The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject, preferably in population or statistical genetics with a strong statistical or mathematical background and good computational skills including the development of R packages. A strong and an up-to-date background in statistical population genetics and its applications are essential. Experience of analysing large bodies of human population genetic and phenotypic data (including facial features) and familiarity with human genetics in general and, in particular, human population genetics is desirable.This is a full-time post and is available to 30 June 2014 in the first instance.All applicants must complete a short application form, upload a CV and supporting statement.The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 6 June 2012.
