Applications are invited for appointment to the above position which will be offered on a full-time fixed-term basis for 3 years commencing on or about 1 June 2012.

The Menzies Research Institute Tasmania is renowned internationally for its innovative research utilising the unique competitive advantages Tasmania offers, including our island geography, stable population and our extensive genealogical records. It has a pre-eminent reputation in population health research and a range of areas within the biomedical sciences, with an additional emphasis on clinical and translational research. The new Medical Science Precinct in Hobart is a world-class biomedical and clinical research facility.

One focus of our research group is improving our understanding of the plasticity inherent within the adult central nervous system. We typically combine in vitro approaches with in vivo transgenic models to examine the proliferation, maturation, integration and function of adult born neural cells. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will investigate various aspects of neurogenesis and gliogenesis in the adult brain.

Applicants must have completed a PhD in a relevant area with evidence of research experience and strong track record of publications in a field relevant to the position. A willingness to work with transgenic models is essential. Experience in genetic engineering, molecular biology or immunohistochemistry and microscopy, along with knowledge of neuroanatomy is desirable.

The appointment will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $86,572 per annum (comprising salary within the range $69,154 – $73,993, plus 17% superannuation), with the option of an additional 3% salary loading in exchange for 14% instead of 17% superannuation).
