Postdoctoral Research Assistants in Molecular Cell biology

Three post-doctoral scientist positions are available for ambitious scientists who wish to join the Cancer Research UK Chromosome Replication Research Group headed by Professor Julian Blow and located in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Gene Regulation & Expression, University of Dundee. The positions are supported by a recent Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award to Julian Blow.

The research will be based on our recent discovery of an important new cellular response to replication inhibition that involves activating otherwise ‘dormant' replication origins near to stalled replication forks (see: J Cell Biol 173, 673-683; Genes Dev 21, 3331-3341; EMBO Rep 10, 406-412; J Cell Biol 188, 209-221; J Cell Biol 191, 1285-1297; TiBS 36, 405-414). This appears to be the cell's first line of defence to promote complete genome duplication when replication is inhibited or DNA is damaged. Since many chemotherapeutic drugs target the process of DNA replication, this work has considerable significance for improving the treatment of cancer.

Three projects will investigate:
Molecular pathways regulating dormant origins and replication factory activation
Characterisation of the cellular response to inhibition of DNA replication
Mutations in cancer cells affecting the response to inhibition of DNA replication
We are looking for highly motivated scientists with:

a background in cell biology or molecular biology
a strong track-record of peer-reviewed publications
the ability to think and work independently
These positions are available for 3 years.
