Photonics Research Group

Research Fellow in Mode-Locked Fibre Lasers
Full time and fixed term until 1 June 2016

Salary: £30,122 to £35,938 per annum

The Photonics Research Group is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow with a strong experimental background and track of independent research to work on the European Research Council Advanced Investigator Grant led by Prof. S. K. Turitsyn. The successful applicant will join a world-renowned Photonics Research Group and will be working at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary research problems and industrial applications.

The project has multiple goals in the field of newly emerged area of ultra-long fibre lasers. The specific project tasks will include: experimental studies of pulsed Raman fibre lasers operating in the interval from 1060 to 1550 nm; experimental studies of advanced fibre mode-locked lasers with extended cavity, dispersion-managed dissipative solitons in fibre lasers. The post invites highly a motivated researcher with a proven track record in design, development and demonstration of mode-locked fibre lasers.

Applicants should have a PhD in laser physics or fibre optics. The post requires a proven expertise in fibre lasers, experience of independent experimental work in fibre lasers, understanding of numerical modeling of fibre lasers and a good research record (including publications in high impact journals) in fibre lasers, fibre-optic techniques, femtosecond technologies and other relevant areas. The ability to conduct independent research and to supervise research students, experience in developing new laboratories and managing research projects is essential.
