瑞典卡罗林斯卡医学院系统生物学博士后招聘
job description
Position: We have an opening for an individual wishing to join a multidisciplinary project in the systems biology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The successful candidate will be expected to develop data integration approaches for the analysis of high throughput data from a range of different omics platforms. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline preferably bioinformatics, statistics, computer science or other quantitative field, with demonstrated experience in developing computational approaches to analyzing large datasets. We are especially interested in candidates with prior experience in data integration and statistical analysis, including the use of R and Bioconductor, as well as multivariate statistics. We make extensive use of multivariate statistical workflows involving PCA, O2PLS, PLS, and OPLS-DA using SIMCA-P+. Experience with pathway-, network- and gene ontology analyses of disparate omics data sets would be an advantage.
Research: This position presents a unique opportunity for a motivated candidate to work on a comprehensive translational systems biology study designed to elucidate the mechanisms of chronic inflammatory diseases. Data from multiple analytical platforms have already been acquired from a large-scale clinical study including metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics studies in combination with clinical and life style information. The specific long-term aims of the project are to investigate the mechanisms of chronic inflammatory diseases from a systems perspective, towards the goal of understanding the etiology of disease pathology as well as its subsequent resolution. Developed bioinformatics approaches will be employed in translational research to analyze patient samples primarily from COPD. Studies will be performed in close collaboration with clinicians at the Karolinska Hospital enabling the successful candidate to be directly involved in translational systems biology efforts. It is expected that the candidate will be able to work well in a team environment to interact with the multiple stake holders in this project, including clinical research staff and multiple research groups involved in data acquisition.
Environment: The Karolinska Institutet is one of Europe’s largest medical universities and contains commensurate resources and infrastructure. A total of 600 research groups span the full spectrum of medical disciplines and includes 2,000 researchers, 1,000 technicians, and 2,300 postgraduate students from all parts of the world who take part in both basic and clinical research.
Start date: Funding to begin at the Karolinska Institutet is available from Aug 2012. The overall start date is negotiable.
Salary: Salary at the Karolinska Institutet is stipend-based and includes health insurance.
Applications: Send applications, including research experience, CV and at least two references to Åsa Wheelock (asa.wheelock@ki.se) The position is open until filled, but applications should be received by March 31st for full consideration.
