Science jobs from Massachusetts General Hospital Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging: job description
POCTORAL DOCTORAL FELLOW
Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory Studying Neural Mechanisms of Pain Perception and Modulation by Acupuncture and Expectancy
Massachusetts General Hospital, Departments of Radiology and Psychiatry and Martinos Center for Functional Neuroimaging, Charlestown Navy Yard
General Overview
Though the use of innovative fMRI experimental paradigms and studies on a hybrid MR-PET scanner, we are combining innovative brain imaging techniques to understand the mechanisms of pain perception and modulation. We are currently looking for two research fellows at the postdoctoral level to join our team. The appointment as a Harvard Medical School research fellow will be for two years with possibility for extension based on performance and the availability of funding.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated researcher with a desire to begin an independent career related to or involving neuroimaging. We will consider candidates of any scientific background. However the position requires experience in the acquisition of PET and/or fMRI data, and physiological monitoring and behavioral assessments. Extremely strong candidates with neuroscience backgrounds and minimal imaging experience are still encouraged to apply. Studies will include calibration and validation studies of neural activation as evidenced by PET and fMRI imaging from healthy adults. These studies are supported by several NIH-funded projects and will be conducted under the training and supervision of Drs. Randy Gollub and Jian Kong.
The research fellow position includes:o Opportunities for training in advanced fMRI data analysis or advanced PET data analysis if not already proficient
o Opportunities to participate in study designs
o Primary role in image data acquisition and analysis
o Chief responsibility for recording associated behavioral data, scoring questionnaires and other study instruments, data management, and analysis of behavioral data measures
o Opportunities to assist in the development and reporting for associated IRB protocols
o Primary role in manuscript and grant preparation and editing
The job requires a candidate who is mature, responsible and flexible with excellent organizational and people skills. S/He must be able to work with in a fast-paced environment, and should be able to problem-solve/troubleshoot, juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and seek assistance when appropriate.
Qualifications
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Imaging or a related field. Strong written and oral English communication skills are required. Good writing skills are also required.
Other Information
Interested applicants should send a cover letter describing research interests and experience, an updated CV and names of three references to: Randy L. Gollub, M.D., Ph.D., MGH Psychiatric Neuroimaging, Bldg. 120, 2nd Ave., Room 101, Charlestown, MA 02129, USA. Please email requested documents to Alexandra Cheetham at acheetham@partners.org.
The Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School are equal opportunity and affirmative action employers.
