The Computational Geoscience Department at Simula Research Laboratory at Oslo Fornebu, Norway is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with outstanding academic background to work in the field of high-performance scientific computing on a 4 year contract.
Description
The Post-Doc position is part of a research project, entitled "User-friendly programming of GPU-enhanced clusters via automated code translation and optimization", which is funded by the Research Council of Norway. Besides Simula, the project has three partners: University of California, San Diego, San Diego Supercomputer Center, and SINTEF. The Department of Computational Geoscience at Simula Research Laboratory works on the development of computational methods, evaluating their performance on the latest computer architecture and applying these methods to complicated geoscience problems. Our team is highly diverse and unifies researchers from geology and geophysics to mathematics and physics and scientific and high performance computing. We are closely tied to the oil and gas industry and obtain a majority of our funding from Statoil, either through academic or R&D projects. The Post-Doc student is expected to carry out internationally leading research activities on automated GPU code translation and optimization, with applications to challenging scientific problems. Specific research topics include (but not limited to): - development of a framework enabling automated code translation and optimization in a multi-GPU context, from serial source code - automated translation and optimization of serial source code to parallel code, in a multi-CPU context - methodologies for utilizing both GPUs and CPUs in hybrid clusters - performance modeling/prediction and optimization of hybrid GPU-CPU codes - real-world applications The candidate must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent education) in a subject of computational science or computer science. The candidate must also have a research record of high international level. It is essential that the candidate can demonstrate extensive experience int high-performance parallel programming, with connection to real-world scientific applications. Solid knowledge of numerical methods is also required. Applicants should provide the following information via email to jobs@simula.no.
