A postdoctoral position is available with the Nanophysics Group at Reykjavík University. The succesful applicant will work on theoretical studies and simulation of vacuum microelectronic systems. Such systems operate in a markedly different regime than conventional vacuum electronic devices and it is of interest to examine their fundamental behavior, e.g. with regard to Coulomb collisons, field emission and generation of THz radiation. The relatively small size of the systems under consideration offers some very interesting possibilities in terms of high-fidelity modeling that omits the approximations and averaging that must be used in simulatiuons of larger systems.

Reykjavík University is a private university that focuses on Technology, Business and Law. Reykjavik University (RU) is committed to excellence in teaching and research. RU's new campus near the center of Iceland‘s capital, Reykjavík, offers excellent facilities in a beautiful setting. Job duties: The successful applicant will work with other members of the group on further improving the simulation code that has been developed at Reykjavík University. This includes improving the circuit model and electromagnetic model for the vacuum space, the field emission model and the data analysis capabilities. Research questions of interest involve generation of coherent THz radiation, effects of surface irregularity, and emittance growth near field emission sites. The postdoctoral researcher will have considerable freedom to pick research topics within the project. In addition the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to help mentor students working with the group. Job requirements: • Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering or related fields. • Experience in scientific computing. • Familiarity with vacuum electronics and/or plasma physics.
