Postdoctoral Fellow – TCGA
The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISB's goal is to unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new era of P4 Medicine (predictive, preventive, participatory and personalized medicine).
The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) is a comprehensive and extensive effort to accelerate our understanding of the genetics of cancer (cancergenome.nih.gov). The ISB was recently designated a Genome Data Analysis Center as part of TCGA, and seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Center. The successful candidate will join a diverse team of scientists working together on the analysis of TCGA cancer genomics data. We seek a candidate who is both highly self-motivated and very comfortable working in a team environment. The position entails the design, implementation, and evaluation of models and computational methods for analyzing TCGA data.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, computer science or engineering. Preference will be given to candidates who have at least 2 years experience in computational biology, including the design and implementation of algorithms applied to the analysis of biological data. Strong analytical and programming skills are essential. Experience with common bioinformatics methods, tools, websites and data resources is highly desired, in particular high-throughput data analysis tools and techniques, genome sequence analysis, and experience retrieving, manipulating and managing data from public data repositories such as NCBI, UCSC, and Ensembl. Knowledge of statistics and the ability to work with a variety of different biological data types are also highly desired. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
