Job Description

Position Summary: Develops new nanostructured catalysts for the clean chemical synthesis of Biodiesel from inexpensive feedstocks. The research project will involve the synthesis, characterization, and optimization of nanocomposite catalysts, surface science and process engineering to deliver new nanotechnologies for the heterogeneous catalytic esterification and transesterification of free fatty acids and triglycerides from waste grease into biodiesel.

Essential Functions:

Conducts research involving the synthesis, characterization, and optimization of nanocomposite catalysts, surface science and process engineering.
Documents and analyzes results.
Prepares results for publication in scientific journals.
Assists research group members.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with current synthesis and characterization techniques used in solid state materials research required. Expertise in the study of catalytic performance of materials. Experience with electronic structure and modeling software preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and independently as part of an enthusiastic team working at the interface of Chemistry-Chemical Engineering, with access to advanced analytical tools including state of the art X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, NMR, and Mass spectrometry as well as a newly acquired physisorption and chemisorption instrumentation, in addition to routine equipments such as GCs, IR, UV and microcalorimetry.
Strong background in materials synthesis and characterization.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work.Talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
