Postdoctoral Fellow Positions in Biomimetic Microsystems for Lung Disease Model Development

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Biomimetic Microsystems Platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things; to pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort; and to harness these insights to create biologically inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment – thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world. We seek outstanding applicants for an interdisciplinary post-doctoral position in bioengineering / respiratory biology for the development of novel in vitro ‘Organ-on-Chip- microsystems technologies to study and model respiratory diseases.

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in a field related to respiratory biology, or bioengineering, to have an excellent track record of research at an in biomedical science or engineering and an interest for biological applications. The candidate should be open-minded, ingenuous, energetic, and bring strong expertise and experimental background in at least one of the fields of human pathology, respiratory biology and/or pulmonary inflammation, microfluidics, microfabrication, system engineering, cell biology, or cell culture in microsystems. Basic knowledge of cell culture, basic molecular biology concepts and techniques is also required. The ideal candidate would bring expertise in lung biology and physiology, and have experience in modern bioengineering methods, such as microfabrication and microfluidics.

A successful candidate is expected to develop and lead an interdisciplinary research project aimed at creating microengineered human organs-on-chip models and disease models and exploring their use for drug discovery applications.

Applications, assembled as a single pdf file, should contain a C.V., a cover letter describing research interests and goals, a full list of publications, copies of up to three relevant scientific papers, and names and contact information for at least three writers of letters of recommendation, who might be contacted as references. Applications should be sent to faculty_postdocs@wyss.harvard.edu.
