job description

School of Life Sciences
Institute of Cancer Therapeutics
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT IN CANCER PHARMACOLOGY
REF:RLS1694
Grade 8 : £31,798 – £35,788 per annum
Fixed-term for 36 months

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced postdoctoral research assistant, funded by The Prostate Cancer Charity, to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team involved with the development of novel tumour-selective therapeutics for prostate cancer.

This exciting position has been developed to drive the translation of a new class of tumour-selective therapeutic for prostate cancer from the laboratory toward the clinic.

All work will be carried out at the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford.

The Institute of Cancer Therapeutics has an international reputation for translational research leading to the identification of novel therapies and additionally is part of an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) to provide laboratory support to early phase clinical trials. The Institute is housed in a state-of-the-art new building with dedicated facilities for medicinal chemistry, target validation, drug analysis, proteomics, tumour biology and pharmacology. See www.cancer.brad.ac.uk for further information.

You will have a PhD in the Life Sciences and will contribute to the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of prostate cancer. In particular, you will play a central and major role in the development and biological evaluation of a new class of novel tumour-activated chemotherapeutics developed in-house (see Cancer Research: Sept. 2010: Vol. 70, Page 6902).

You will apply yourself to studies focused on determination of drug target selectivity, tumour-selective drug activation, preclinical pharmacological assessment, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and ultimately chemotherapeutic efficacy toward prostate cancer.

We welcome enthusiastic, motivated and driven candidates interested in cancer biology and cancer drug development, willing to work in an exciting research environment, and keen to build upon their skills and experience.

Informal enquiries prior to application may be made to Dr Jason Gill, Senior Lecturer in Molecular Pharmacology on 01274 233232 or to e-mail address j.gill1@bradford.ac.uk

All applicants are required to complete a University of Bradford application form. Please see www.brad.ac.uk/jobs for more information and details on how to apply.

Closing Date: 5pm on 9th August 2011
