job description
A post-doctoral position is available starting October, 2011 in the Genome Duplication and Maintenance group of Dr. Pei-Yun Jenny Wu at the Institute of Genetics and Development of Rennes (IGDR) in Brittany, France. Our newly established team uses the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe to investigate the control of DNA replication, the consequences of altering the program of DNA replication on cellular function, and the participation of the multiple layers regulating DNA synthesis in the maintenance of genome integrity. We are seeking candidates to conduct a project that studies how cells respond to replication stress and how this may lead to accumulation of mutations that contribute to genome instability and cancer. This work will utilize a combination of methodologies, including microarray analysis, next-generation sequencing, and single molecule analysis of DNA replication by DNA combing.
We welcome all candidates with a solid background in molecular biology and genetics. Previous experience using yeast as a model system is helpful but not required. This position is supported by the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR).
The IGDR is the primary center for biological research in Rennes and in the Brittany region. It is located on the campus of the School of Medicine of the University of Rennes 1. The research at the institute covers a wide variety of subjects, including the regulation of gene expression, epigenetics, cell cycle control, development, membrane trafficking and polarity, and the genetics of diseases. In addition, the institute has placed a strong emphasis on promoting interdisciplinary approaches as well as connections with clinical research. The IGDR is actively expanding and will soon comprise 21 teams and approximately 200 researchers. For more information, please see: http://igdr.univ-rennes1.fr/english/.
The vibrant city of Rennes is the capital of the region of Brittany, located in northwestern France. Rich in arts and culture, it is a young and lively city with a large University student population. Rennes is ideally located for access to Paris (2 hours by train) as well as to the beautiful coast of Brittany (from 45 minutes by car).
Candidates should contact Dr. Jenny Wu at pei-yun.wu@univ-rennes1.fr. To apply, please send a letter describing your interest in this research, a Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing your publications and past research experiences, as well as two letters of recommendation.
