job description
NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Regulation of Human Body Weight and Energy Metabolism
A postdoctoral fellowship is available at the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases, one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) located in Bethesda, Maryland. The successful candidate will investigate whole-body metabolism and the regulation of body weight and composition as part of a unique interdisciplinary research team. Research will be conducted at the new state-of-the-art NIH Metabolic Clinical Research Unit and functional neuroimaging facilities. Specific projects include, but are not limited to:
1. Clinical weight loss studies using a novel feedback control methodology
2. Adaptations of energy metabolism and the neural bases of food perception during over- and under-feeding
3. Macronutrient balances responsible for body composition changes during weight gain and loss
4. Metabolic and neural effects of various diets
5. Effects of dietary protein and exercise on body composition and energy metabolism
Applicants should possess an M.D. or a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Nutrition, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of whole-body macronutrient metabolism and experience conducting human metabolism experiments involving methods such as indirect calorimetry, body composition assessment, biomedical imaging, and isotopic tracer methods. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to NIH guidelines. The initial fellowship commitment is for 2 years, but may be renewed yearly beyond the initial commitment for a maximum of 5 years.
