Environment and Life Sciences is an expanding multi-disciplinary School in the College of Science and Technology with around 1,250 undergraduate students, 360 postgraduate taught students and 70 research students. The School has research strengths in the area of ecosystems and environment (disease ecology, biodiversity, ecosystems, geospatial modelling) together with a strong presence in biomedical science (childhood cancer, diagnostics and inflammatory disease). Its profile of training is aligned to these strengths and aims to reinforce a strong national record for high quality research-led teaching and continue with its real world focus on Education for Capability. We now wish to strengthen our teaching and research base with the appointment of additional post.

Postdoctoral Research Associate

£29,972 – £35,788 PA REF: 1190677

You will join an ongoing collaborative research project to investigate the role of dogs in the transmission of echinococcosis in Tibetan pastoral communities in western China. The RA will be responsible for logistical planning and undertaking dog sampling, carrying out data analysis, epidemiological studies and modelling simulations of transmission and interventions. You should have a PhD in parasite/infection epidemiology and/or a veterinary degree with post-graduate experience in epidemiology, as well as field work experience.

This research post only will be based in the Cestode Zoonoses Research Group on the University of Salford campus, and are funded by a Wellcome Trust 3 year project grant to Professor Phil Craig (p.s.craig@salford.ac.uk).
