job description
Job Description: An NIAAA funded postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. John McDaid in the department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago looking at the role of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in ethanol reward. Experimental procedures in the lab involve the use of whole cell electrophysiological techniques to study effects of ethanol and/or nicotine on synaptic transmission in brain reward areas (for more information see http://mcgeheelab.uchicago.edu/ldtg). The lab is located on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park with easy access to the downtown area by car, bike or public transport.
Job requirements: PhD or MD degree required, strong background in biological and/or physical sciences required; research experience in neurobiology and electrophysiology preferred, but not required. Opportunities will exist for use of behavioral and biochemical assays of ethanol and nicotine effects in conjunction with electrophysiology. Trainees are expected to pursue independent support through grant applications to Federal and private funding sources. A cover letter, resume, and the names and contact information of three referees are required to be considered for this position. The University of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
