Our group has established a new strategy for the biosynthetic derivatisation of complex polyketide natural products using advanced enzyme engineering methods. The selected candidate will join a running project and closely collaborate with biotechnologists and biochemists on the preparative scale isolation as well as structural characterisation of the new compounds, starting from bacterial fermentations. The goal is to establish a well characterised compound library of high diversity and structural complexity. Coupled to this is the semi-synthetic derivatisation of the isolated polyketides, resulting in the chemo-fermentative synthesis of bioactive and complex new molecules.
Job requirements
The candidate must hold a doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry, natural product chemistry, or a related field with the following specific qualifications:
- HPLC (analytical and preparative scale) and LC/MS
- 2D-NMR for the elucidation of complex structures
- Organic Synthesis

Group and Infrastructure
The infrastructure in Dortmund comprises state-of-the-art LC/MS (also HRMS), preparative HPLC and HPLC/MS as well as access to a 600MHz NMR. The interdisciplinary and international group encompasses chemists, biochemists, and bioengineers with a strong team spirit, which will also be expected from the candidate.
