The postdoctoral fellow will join a team developing analytical methods for single cell proteomics, based on the novel technique of mass cytometry developed at the University of Toronto. This technology is currently under commercial development by DVS Sciences, based in Toronto. The project involves the analysis of cancer tissue, including biopsy material obtained directly from patients, using antibodies labelled with stable isotopes from the lanthanide series, and single cell MS detection. We are particularly interested to understand the generation of biological complexity during the genetic evolution of human cancers, with the goal of using this information to direct novel approaches to cancer treatment. Thus the work spans basic cellular and molecular biology of human cancer, oncology, pathology, instrumentation development, and computational biology.
This position would be suitable for a recent PhD graduate with a strong background in cell biology, good analytical skills, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The position is fully funded, and available immediately.
