Description: A Postdoctoral position is available starting September 2011 in the laboratory of Dr. Colin Johnson (department of Biochemistry and Biophysics). We study ferlin and SNARE proteins involved in membrane trafficking and exocytosis found in a variety of cells, including muscle tissue and hair cells in the cochlea. These proteins have been associated with human pathologies including muscular dystrophy and deafness, and we are investigating the structural and functional properties by which these proteins operate as well as the molecular basis for their associated disease states. Techniques including FRET, reconstituted membrane protein biochemistry and X-ray/NMR are currently being employed. We also have a keen interest in the cell biology and electrophysiology of these systems. Qualified individuals should have a strong background in molecular biology, as well as skills in either recombinant protein expression, protein biochemistry, cell culture, immunofluorescence, or structural biology.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in biochemistry/biophysics or related field.
