The School of Chemistry is one of the main centres for chemical research and education in Australia. We attract an outstanding cohort of undergraduate students as well as postgraduate research students to this vibrant and world class research environment.

We are seeking a highly-motivated postdoctoral fellow in medicinal chemistry to work on an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded collaborative project between the Kassiou and Rendina groups. You will explore the synthesis of new agents for the translocator protein utilising a novel hydrophobic pharmacophore and the development of structure-activity relationships. These agents will have applications in the diagnosis and treatment of brain disease.

This is an opportunity be involved in innovative research that will develop new drug agents towards the advancement of brain disease treatment and further develop collaboration with pharmaceutical firms.

You must possess a PhD in Chemistry. A strong background in medicinal chemistry is essential and preference will be given to those applicants with experience in synthetic chemistry. Experience in the use of in vitro biological assays involving cell based assays would be a distinct advantage. Availability to start at short notice within 2011 is required.

The position is full-time fixed term for three years available from July, 2011 and is subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: $90K p.a. including $76K base salary, leave loading and up to 17% superannuation. Visa sponsorship will be available for the successful appointee if required.
