Job Title: Postdoctoral Scientist in Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology
Job Number: 4009472
Date Posted: 06/21/2011
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job Description
I am looking for someone to work with me on one or both of two NIH-sponsored projects. One is focused on native channels in cardiac myocytes from normal and diseased hearts. The question we are pursuing is the molecular mechanisms for ion channel remodeling during disease processes. The other one is focused on the structure-function relationship of cardiac ion channels (mainly voltage-gated potassium, or Kv, channels). The questions we are pursuing are the 3-D conformations and dynamics of Kv channels in different gating states and sites/mechanisms of actions of (putative) anti-arrhythmic drugs. Both projects employ the following techniques: voltage clamp recordings from single cells, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry/confocal microscopy, molecular biology (mutagenesis, RT-PCR), and genetic manipulations (adenovirus-mediated gene overexpression or knock down).
Candidates should have training and research experience in voltage clamp techniques and a good understanding of channel biophysics. Additional knowledge in molecular biology and cell biology is also important.
The salary will be competitive, but depend on past research expereince (quality and quantity of publications, first authorship vs coauthorship).
