Protein Ubiquitylation Unit, SCottish Institute for ceLL Signalling (SCILLS)
Grade 7 (£29,099 – £35,788)
*Developing chemical tools for studying protein ubiquitination *
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the new lab of Dr Satpal Virdee to develop state of the art research tools using a combination of biological and chemical approaches. We are now looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual with a strong background in organic synthesis and a desire to move into a more multidisciplinary setting.
The position is for 3 years.

Candidate requirements:
• PhD, with outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognized journal.
• Strong background in organic synthesis with a desire to learn biology.
• Experience in peptide chemistry would be beneficial.
• Prior exposure to molecular biology and protein expression/purification desirable, but not essential.
• Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.
• Good communication skills and knowledge of the English language.
Unit Information:
The Protein Ubiquitylation Unit is the first research division of the SCottish Institute for ceLL Signalling (SCILLS). Launched in October 2008, its aim is to study the role of protein ubiquitylation and related modifications in cell regulation and human disease. The Institute is situated next to the world-renowned Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation Unit, in a beautiful location overlooking the estuary of the River Tay.
