Job Description: This research associate will work as part of a new research team focusing on membrane science and technology and the development of new advanced membranes. This person will be providing highly specialized expertise in the area of membrane surface modification and the development of surface modified membranes. This person will be expected to provide support and input for both faculty submitted research proposals and to submit proposals developed on their own to secure research funding. This person may also help to teach classes, give lectures, and help enhance the undergraduate and graduate research experiences in the department.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering. Focus in polymer science and three years experience.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering. Focus in polymer science and three years postdoctoral experience. The position requires significant experience with synthetic polymeric membranes and membrane based separation processes. In particular the researcher should have strong background in surface modification of membranes using methods such as UV initiated free radical polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization, reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer, etc. Moreover, the researcher should have experience with membranes for biomedical applications (e.g., protein isolation, bacteria and viruses capture). The candidate is expected to work on the development of new membranes and membrane surfaces for advanced bioseparations as well as water treatment applications. Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students is preferred. The candidate will be expected to develop his or her own proposals for submissions to funding agencies.
