About the Job

The primary responsibility of this position will be to probe for Beyond the Standard Model physics in the Mu2e experiment located at Fermilab. This experiment is designed to detect the as yet unobserved conversion of a muon to a single electron. This experiment is in the installation and commissioning phase and is building and testing analysis and monitoring software for its upcoming data run in 2027.

70%: Research, divided between Mu2e and Mu2eII.

10% Supervision of graduate students, technicians, and undergraduates participating in this research

10% Maintain familiarity with the latest results and methods in the field, reading relevant papers, organizing and participating in seminars and conferences.

10%: Communicating research to the collaboration and the broader high energy physics community by giving presentations to the collaboration, writing technical documents, and submitting papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Giving presentations at universities and laboratories, and presenting results at domestic and international conferences.

Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.

This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

Required:

Required PhD in Physics or Astrophysics by beginning date of appointment

Preferred:

Experience with the design and construction of high energy or nuclear physics detectors. Experience analyzing data from high energy or nuclear physics experiments. Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulations. Familiarity with machine learning techniques.
