University ExpectationsMTSU seeks candidates who are committed to excellence and innovative teaching. We also seek to attract a culturally and academically diverse faculty who value working with a diverse student body.
Job DescriptionMTSU’s department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full- time, 2-year, postdoctoral research fellow opportunity (/I04010). This is a full-time, 12-month appointment with a salary of $40,000 plus benefits. Initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension for one additional year depending on continued interest, performance, and available funding, Start date for the position is flexible, but expected between July and September 2020. We seek a junior scholar with experience in theory and computation of strongly correlated many-body electron systems and systems with disorder. The scholar will join a research project focused on numerical study and method development of quantum materials beyond ideal models, funded by a National Science Foundation grant (DMR-1944974), CAREER: Beyond Ideal Quantum Materials: Understanding the Critical Role of Disorder and Electron-Electron Interactions led by PI, Dr. Hanna Terletska. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will work on development theory and numeric to study the role of strong electron-electron interactions and disorder in quantum energy materials. This involves performing state-of-the- art material modeling and numerical simulations of electron and phonon correlations using many-body numerical techniques (QMC, DCA, DMFT, DFT downfolding, DMFT-LDA) and disseminating the findings in scientific publications and talks. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The position’s main responsibilities will be to lead the research study of many-electron systems with strong electron interactions and disorder, participate and contribute in inter-institutional collaborations, and disseminate research findings. This work will involve crafting research questions, code development, and leading a team of research assistants to complete this analysis. The scholar will be expected to lead the dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations. This position provides opportunities for the scholar’s professional development and funded travel to present at national and/or international conferences. The position would also have the opportunity in mentoring research assistants, developing grant proposals and designing STEM outreach programs. Middle Tennessee State University serves approximately 22,000 students and is located about 35 miles southeast of Nashville. It is a vibrant hub for educating students who are accomplished, civically engaged and globally responsible; an engine for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship; and a nexus of cultural, social, and artistic expression.
